What is a polyester string?
A polyester string is a monofilament string made of polyester or co-poly — a single core with a coating, instead of the many fibers that build a multifilament. Polyester strings became the standard on the tour thanks to their tension stability, their controlled response, and — when shaped profiles and slippery surfaces arrived — their enormous spin potential.

Pros and cons of polyester strings
The pros: predictability shot after shot, excellent spin (especially shaped profiles like Cube), good tension stability, and durability for hard-hitting players. The cons: a stiffer feel that strains the arm, and less free power than softer materials — which is why many recreational players start with lower tension or a hybrid.
If you play several times a week with heavy topspin, a polyester is almost always the right choice. If you play less frequently or have arm issues — try a soft co-poly like Alpha or a hybrid with a soft cross string.
4-sided string and other shaped profiles
A 4-sided string is a square polyester string. The edges provide mechanical grip on the ball felt that a round string cannot achieve, creating the sharp ball trajectory and quick snap-back that modern spin strings are known for. Playing gently with polyester
Three simple tricks: string 1–2 kg lower than you're used to, choose a soft co-poly construction, and change strings regularly — a dead polyester loses comfort and spin long before it breaks. A hybrid with a soft cross string is also a proven way to maintain spin from the polyester main string.
